About/FAQ’s

Worship/Arts Pastor

Hi, my name is Michael Roux!  I am the Worship/Arts Director at MCA.  Thanks for visiting the Worship/Arts Blog.  My hope is that this blog can answer any questions you have and keep you informed on what’s happening in the Worship Ministry here!  Please let me know if you have any questions!

Worship at MCA is an exciting time of entering into God’s presence and ministering unto Him during the MCA Venue Worship Services. The heartbeat of MCA is to see God glorified and people transformed and equipped for ministry. Our worship team members are a gifted, Holy Spirit filled great group of worshipers. We’re passionate about worship, and we’re excited about what God is doing in the worship ministry at MCA. Following are a few FAQ’s about our worship ministry.

what venues does MCA currently have and what are their styles?

LIVEenergetic, celebratory, contemporary worship 2006 to
the present. Features artists such as Chris Tomlin, CFNI,
Planetshakers, and Hillsongs. Uses a full band, other
orchestral instruments, and 3-4 singers.
Sunday Night LIVE – Contemporary worship that’s a little more
laid back, featuring many of the same artists as LIVE.
Uses a full band and several singers.
Video Cafe – Unplugged, contemporary worship in a relaxed
atmosphere with a keyboard or guitar and 1-2 singers.
Matinee - the popular afternoon version of Video Cafe with a
wider variety of music
Traditions - Hymns and worship choruses from the 60′s, 70′s
and some 80′s. Uses a keyboard or guitar and 2-3
singers.
Element - Free, contemporary worship with the younger energy
and music of a young adult service. Uses a full band
and 2-3 singers.
Multi language- less contemporary music geared toward those
for whom English is a second language. Uses one
musicians and 1-2 singers.
Other services outside the venue services – Hiland Prison, The
Mary Conrad Center, Providence Extended Care, and
the Country Western Fellowship that meets the first
Friday of the month.

How do i get involved?

The first step is to introduce yourself to us. You can fill out a form
located on the wall outside the sanctuary in LIVE or ask a venue
lead for a form. You can also contact Michael Roux at 330-2106 or
michaelroux@mcaonline.org or post a comment on our blog. Then we will contact
you about setting you up for an informal audition.

what’s involved in an audition?

Talk – It’s important for you to get to know the worship ministry and be able to ask questions about it.  So, I give you the opportunity to explore what we are about.  I also like to be able get to know those who are interested in joining.  So, I like to have a very informal conversation so that we can get to know each other.

Play – To get a general idea of the ability level, sound and style, I ask the potential team member to sing, or play a worship song of their choice.

Invitation – I then invite you to attend a rehearsal with one of the teams to sing or play along with them as they run through their songs for the week. It gives us a chance to hear you in “real time” instead of just
singing/playing a solo type song, and we can get an idea of what part you sing and how you play with the band or blend with other singers, etc.

Placement- Next we talk about placing you on a team.   It’s important that you are placed in a spot that is life-giving to you and fits your style.  You may be good at a few different styles and may be able to serve on a couple teams.  But the point is that you and I find a place that fits your Sweet-Spot.

What are the requirements?

The main requirement is that you love Jesus with all your heart and
are a committed Christ follower. The other would be that you have
a passion to worship and lead people into worship and not just
sing songs to perform. Beyond that, you need to be familiar with
chord structure and be able to read a chord chart, have a good
sense of timing and be able to work with a band for the services
that use a full band. For the services that use only one instrument
you would need to be able to follow the worship leader, or play
and sing in some cases. For Traditions being able to read music
and play hymns is necessary. We also ask our worship teams
to be faithful and committed to their team and to the ministry.

What is the time committment?

We ask that you commit to no less than once a month on a team.

If you choose to be on more thanone team you would minister more often.

We also ask that you commit to a 1 hour rehearsal during the week with

your team and then again for about 45 minutes preceding the service
they are scheduled for that week.

The LIVE, Video Café, & Traditions services have two morning services

instead of one, so the time is from 8 AM to around 1 PM for those services.
For the Multi-language, and Element the time would be from 10 AM to 1 PM

more or less. For Matinee the time commitment will be from about 1 PM to 3 PM.

Greatest Hits plays Saturday PM, and the time commitment is from 4 PM – 7 PM.

Our Sunday morning format for all of the services is: 2 upbeat praise songs,

sermon, 2 slower reflective song for altar time, and 1 upbeat closing song.

All of the worship team members are expected to stay until the

end of the services.  Those in LIVE, Video Cafe, and Traditions would be there for 2 services.

what if i don’t know the music, how can i learn it?

We have a song pool that we pull from each quarter of songs
that our worship leaders have chosen. Most or all of the songs
are on itunes, which is a free download. We only do 5 new songs
each quarter in LIVE, for instance, so that’s about $5 per quarter
out of pocket expense. You can listen to the tunes and learn them
at home, and we meet a couple times a month to go over new music
and work on vocal training at the same time. For other venues it
varies as to how they choose music, and you can work with
other musicians in that particular venue to work on learning
the material they use.
