Are you interested in a simple way to approach personal devotions?

MCA Church is a collection of people becoming spiritually mature.  Recent scholarly and expansive research suggests that the core ingredient in all indicators of spiritual maturity is consistent Bible reading and study (The Shape of Faith to Come, Waggoner, 2008).

Our congregation follows a very simple daily Bible reading plan developed in Hawaii by Pastor Wayne Cordeiro.  The plan has become known as S.O.A.P. which is an acrostic for Scripture, Observation, Application, and Prayer.

Scripture: Simply read the scripture that is assigned for the day, take your time to understand it and hear the heart behind it. Write out the verse(s) that stuck out to you.

Observation: Jot down your observations. Answer questions like what’s happening, what do you notice, what are you thinking or feeling, what does the scripture mean?

Application: Write out how this scripture can be applied to your life today. Is God specifically saying anything to you through it?

Prayer: Write a prayer to God based on what you just learned; ask him to help you apply this truth in your life.

Start with an open heart to God and end with an Amen. You just had devotions!
