The Joy of Living by Faith

Last evening, my talk was about the joy of being chosen by God to cooperate in the creating of a people who are His. Being chosen by God for his family, mission, and ministry is exceptionally joyful.

Today’s teaching is designed to remind us of the joy of living by faith. With our theme being, “Having Received Holy Spirit Power, We Are Witnesses,” we come immediately to the role of faith in the Spirit empowered follower of Jesus. To be Spirit filled, without living a faith life, would be empty and meaningless. The reason for the giving of the Spirit and His power is to enable the faith life.

I trust the following will encourage us to apply the Spirit and His power to a life of faith.

Having Received Holy Spirit Power, We are Witnesses

The Joy of Living By Faith

Our previous talk reminded us that God has chosen to create a people of his own, by the power of the Holy Spirit, through you and me.

Truly it is a joy to be chosen to receive the Holy Spirit and witness His power.

Today I would like for us to give thought to the fact that Biblical faith is a key to our theme.

Hebrews 11:6 instructs that “without faith it is impossible to please God.”

Pastor and the team know that Templo Cristiano’s missions ministry must be filled with faith in order to please God. Tonight we are asking God to build our faith for the Faith Promise commitment time on Sunday.

You have been chosen to join with God in creating a people of His own. Are you living by faith in this calling?

Let’s consider the faith of giving in 2 Corinthians 8:3.
1. They gave as much as they were able.
a. This, to me, is the giving of tithes and offerings.
b. This requires a bit of faith, but mostly requires obedience.
2. They gave even beyond their ability.
a. This, to me, is the making of a faith promise.
b. There is no way to give beyond my ability except by faith.

There is a pattern to this kind of faith in the Bible.

1. The word of faith.
a. From the Bible
b. From a sermon
c. From a prophecy
d. From a word of knowledge
e. Direct from His heart to yours
2. The work of faith.
a. The word of faith requires work.
b. The work is a type of proof that you actually have a word of faith.
3. The joy of faith.
a. This kind of faith is always a WOW.
b. This is remarkable.
c. Awe inspiring

Let us look at Bible examples.

1. Jesus turns water into wine. John 2
a. Jesus’ mother gave the word of faith in verse 5, “Do whatever he tells you.”
b. The work of faith was done by the servants in verse 7 “Fill the jars with water,” and in verse 8 “now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.”
c. The Joy of faith is seen in verse 11, “was the first of the signs through which he revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him.”
2. Peter walks on water. Matthew 14:22-33
a. Word of faith is in verse 29, “Come.”
b. Work of faith is in verse 29, “then Peter got down out of the boat.”
c. Joy of faith is in verse 29, “walked on water” and verse 33, “those who were in the boat worshiped Jesus saying, “Truly you are the son of God.”

Are you, like the Macedonian Christians, giving as much as you are able and even beyond your ability in:

The Joy of Being Chosen

I am speaking at the Templo Cristiano in San Salvador, El Salvador. The theme of the convention is, “Having Received Holy Spirit Power, We Are Witnesses.”

My goal is to start the conversation with the absolute joy of Acts 1:8 being for us today. Almost unbelievably, God has chosen us to cooperate with Him in the redemption of mankind. We are co-laborers with God! WOW!

Following are my message notes.

Having Received Holy Spirit Power, We are Witnesses

The Joy of Being Chosen: God is Creating a People of His Own through Me

Have you ever wondered about the significance of your part of Christian mission? How do you have joy in the face of questions like…
• Is there any significance to my ministry?
• Could anything I do make any real difference?
• Does my faith promise pledge make any real impact?
• I have been a pastor at MCA Church for 29 years (1,508 Sundays). Does it make any difference at all?

Bad things happen when we lose sight of the significance of our part of God’s mission. When we lose the joy of being chosen…..
• We tend to give only part of our heart, soul, mind, and strength to the cause.
• We become mechanical and robotic rather than life giving and transformational.
• We save more of our self for our self rather than taking up the cross and giving our lives away for the cause.
• We lose the joy of the perceived risk of faith. Living within our limits removes the delight of seeing God come through.

God’s Bigger Plan Includes Creating a People of His Own

1. God is creating a people of his own in Adam and Eve. Genesis 1:26, 27
2. God is creating a people of his own in Abraham. Genesis 12:1-3, Genesis 22:15-18
3. God is creating a people of his own in the Holy Spirit through you and me! 1 Peter 2:9,10

There is great joy in knowing that God has included you and me in fulfilling His desire for Adam and Eve and His promise to Abraham by including us in creating a people of His own.

Paul calls the joy of being included in making a people of God’s own, “the riches of His grace.” Ephesians 1:7

1. Ephesians 1:3 Blessed with every spiritual blessing
2. Ephesians 1:4 Chosen by God to be holy and blameless
3. Ephesians 1:5 The advantage of being adopted into God’s family
4. Ephesians 1:7 Redemption through his blood
5. Ephesians 1:7 The forgiveness of sin
6. Ephesians 1:9 Knowing the mystery of God’s will
7. Ephesians 1:10 The advantage of unity with Christ and all things on heaven and earth

Now we have Biblical answers to our questions.
• Is there any significance to my ministry? Yes, God is creating a people of his own through me!
• Could anything I do make any real difference? Yes, God is creating a people of his own through me!
• Does my faith promise pledge make any real impact? Yes, God is creating a people of his own through me!
• I have been a pastor at MCA Church for 29 years (1,508 Sundays). Does it make any difference at all? Yes, God is creating a people of his own through me!

Great things happen when we remember that God is creating a people of his own through us:
• We tend to give all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength to the cause.
• We are not mechanical and robotic; we are fully life giving and transformational.
• We take up the cross and giving our lives away for the cause.
• We discover the joy of the living beyond our human limits by faith.

In Times Like These: Walk in Authority

My message, “In Times Like These: Walk in Authority,” is designed to assist us in realizing God’s authority was given fully to Jesus following his resurrection from the dead. Jesus said, “All authority has been given unto me both in heaven and on earth.” We represent Him. We walk in His authority to make disciples of all nations.

In Times Like These: Walk in Authority

We are learning to bring our whole self to the Great Assignment. Matthew 28:18-20

The Great Assignment has four “Alls.”

• All authority in heaven and earth
• To make disciples of all nations
• Who obey all God’s commandments
• Jesus is with us all the days

We are learning to bring a fifth all: all of me (my whole self). Today the emphasis is upon bringing all of one’s self under all of His authority and then walking out the Great Assignment in His authority.

The Bible is very clear about Jesus’ authority prior to the resurrection. His resurrection from the dead, and all that goes with it changed the wording from “authority” to “all authority in heaven and on earth.”

Matthew 28 suggests that “all nations” have a level of authority that will resist the disciple-making ministry and the call to obey all of God’s commandments. There seems to be an authority in “all nations” to resist discipleship and live in disobedience. The authority of “all nations” is overcome by the “All authority” of Jesus.

I am to bring my whole self to the Great Assignment with the authority of Jesus Christ, who has been given all authority.

The Authority of Jesus both Before and After His Resurrection from the Dead

• All authority in heaven and earth Philippians 2:10
• Authority over angels Hebrews 1:6
• Authority over all rule, authority, power, and dominion Ephesians 1:21, 22
• Eternal authority Daniel 7:13, 14
• Authority over sickness and disease Matthew 4:23, 24
• Authority over demons Matthew 8:28-33
• Authority over physical elements Matthew 8:23-27
• Authority over life and death John 11:1-27
• Authority to forgive sin Matthew 9:1-7
• Authority over the Church Colossians 1:18

Therefore, “Go and make disciples of all nations!” You are Christ’s Ambassadors. 2 Corinthians 5:20

MCA Church LIFE Groups

Congratulations on being part of the MCA Church growing LIFE Group movement. In this, our first session of the ministry year, we have over 200 raving Jesus fans in the LIFE Groups. Plan on inviting a friend to join a group with you for the next ten-week session starting in January.

Getting to Know One Another

1. Have you ever personally seen the authority of Jesus in one of the ten areas Pastor mentioned in the weekend talk?
2. Do you have a situation in which you are seeking to extend the authority of Jesus?

Digging Deeper into the Message

1. What is an ambassador? What is the work of an ambassador? Under what authority does an ambassador work? In what ways do you live out your life as Christ’s ambassador? 2 Corinthians 5:20
2. Read Luke 10:1-20.
a. In what way is being sent out on mission connected to the authority given by Jesus?
b. Would the disciples have Jesus’ authority without being on mission?
c. Do you have Jesus’ authority if you are not fully on mission?
3. What do you understand Luke 10:23 to mean? What was it that prophets and kings had wanted to see?
4. Is the authority given by Jesus in Luke 10:19 given to you today? If so, what must you do to walk in that authority?
5. It is clear that Jesus has sent you as an ambassador to make disciples of the nations. Make a list of at least five things you can do to bring your whole self to this assignment.

1. Please pray for God’s guidance upon your giving decision for MCA Church Global Outreach.
2. Please pray for the MCA Church connection with mission in El Salvador, for Pete and Vicki as they travel back to Australia, and this Sunday’s emphasis on the children of Burkina Faso.

Pastor Edgardo of Strong Tower Church in El Salvador

Today Pastor Edgardo presented a marvelous message entitled, “The 1,000 Generation Blessing.” His comments are exceptionally helpful in living the blessed life in our local setting.

1. Based upon many verses in the Bible, God’s blessing upon those who love God is forever.
2. Our children will go farther than we have gone in their lives. Deut. 1:11
3. Our children will defeat the enemies that we could not conquer. Deut. 1:44
4. Our children will walk under the outpoured Spirit of God. Isaiah 44:3

Pastor Edgardo is Pastor of the Strong Tower Church in El Salvador. We have applied for an R1 Visa for him to become our Senior Pastor of Hispanic Ministries. Currently, we are awaiting the government processes for approval of the R! Visa application. Please be in prayer for God’s blessing upon our application.

When we are approved for the R1 Visa (The Lord willing), we will begin our Hispanic ministry. Our tentative date for launching is November. This is very important to our strategy of reaching the most people with God’s Good News. For example, official census data suggest that 30,000 hispanic culture folks are living in the Anchorage bowl area. Unofficial comments place the population of Spanish speaking residents at 50,000.

May God be pleased with our vision, mission, strategy, and plan to present the love of Jesus to these dear friends.
